Following a long period of negotiations The Sherford Consortium through Plymouth Commercial agents Monk & Partners and Exeter based JLL Property Consultants have a secured the sale of Plot C, 7.6 hectares (18.8 acres) of land at Sherford for the development of a large industrial facility to be occupied by Babcock International Group Plc as an integrated logistics hub and advanced manufacturing base.

To be located on part of the 13.5 hectare (33 acre) Sherford Business Park at the east end of the New Town adjacent to the Deep Lane A38 junction the development for Babcock will provide circa 32500 sq m (350,000 sq ft) of floorspace when built.

The land chosen for it’s strategic location within the Freeport, is conveniently located next to the A38 and Babcock will become the first major employer for the New Town when it opens.

The Council commented the acquisition of the site ensures Babcock can increase its capacity to gear up as part of the Government’s defence review and furthermore aligns with SHDC’s key priorities to transform the South Hams economy to deliver inward investment, foster business growth and create high quality employment opportunities.

The consortium states this transaction aligns with the long term vision for Sherford as a thriving, well connected and economically vibrant community.

John Slade of Monk & Partner comments “we identified the occupier and purchaser for the site before the pandemic and through the perseverance and determination of all of the professional team involved we were able to bring the transaction to it’s intended conclusion in what is likely to be the largest industrial building in the local area when completed.
